Putting an end to all the speculations, cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu joined the Congress Party on January 15 months ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
Earlier this month, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu who had also joined Congress had asserted that Sidhu might contest elections from Amritsar East. Congress MP Navjot Kaur Sidhu on January 4 announced that her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu will “tentatively” contest elections from Amritsar East in Punjab.
The Election Commission today announced that the Punjab assembly elections will be held on February 4.
Speculations were rife that Navjot Singh Sidhu who floated his political forum, “Awaaz-e-Punjab” more than 2 months ago, will be joining the Congress.

Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu quit the BJP in the month of September following differences with the party’s top leadership over the alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Additionally, Ludhiana’s Bains brothers, who floated Aawaaz-e-Punjab – along with Navjot Singh Sidhu, recently joined Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party.
