Nearly 100 IT officials raid Tamil Nadu Health Minister's properties ahead of RK Nagar bypolls

Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar is currently lodged in a jail in Bengaluru in a disproportionate assets case

The Income Tax Department on Friday raided the residence and multiple other properties of Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar ahead of the crucial bypoll to the RK Nagar constituency. The raids are said to have begun around 6 am when nearly 100 officials reached the minister’s house.

The AIADMK leader is currently lodged in a jail in Bengaluru in a disproportionate assets case. A Jayalalithaa loyalist, Vijayabaskar and his relatives were on the radar of the income tax department since the past few days. Four complaints were filed against him since the date of the byelection was announced in RK Nagar.

As per a report in the Times of India, the income tax officials had received complaints that the minister was involved in the distribution of cash to voters in RK Nagar where a byelection is scheduled to be held on April 12.

While 19 places were being searched in Chennai, 13 places were being searched in districts like Trichy and Pudukottai.
