Demanding a CBI inquiry over Tamil Nadu’s former Chief Minister Late Jayalalithaa, ex-CM O Panneerselvam along with his followers went for one day fast on March 6. This hunger strike has been carried out in all the district headquarters across the state. The protest began at 9 a.m. and would conclude at 5 p.m.
All India Anaa Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Members of Parliament and legislators belonging to Panneerselvam group have also joined the protest and have extended their support. The people from Panneerselvam’s faction have raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding Jayalalithaa’s death. As a caretaker, Panneerselvam had announced a judicial inquiry into the death of Jayalalithaa.

Earlier on March 6, the Tamil Nadu government released Jayalalithaa’s health report. The Palaniswami government released a 19-page health report card. The reports claimed that the AIIMS doctors have examined Jayalalitha five times.
There were several suspicions over the death of one of the most loved leaders of the state. Her silent treatment and lack of updates about her health had already raised a lot of eyebrows. The development comes amid claims by supporters of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam that Jayalalithaa’s death needed to be probed to know if there was any foul play.
Former CM and AIADAMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5 last year after suffering a cardiac arrest. Prior to her death, she was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai for around 75 days.
