A police complaint has been filed against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in Hyderabad for his alleged speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi that went viral on social media. At an event recently, the AIMIM leader had spoken about the deaths of Mohammed Akhlaq, Pehlu Khan, and 15-year-old Junaid Khan.
A city-based lawyer had approached the Saidabad Police, alleging that the remarks made by Owaisi were offensive and that he tried to create ‘misunderstandings’ between members of two communities. As per a report in The Times of India, any case is yet to be filed on the issue.
In his speech that went viral on social media, Owaisi allegedly said: “Is it a crime to wear a cap, grow your beard and be a Muslim? There is no need for the sympathy, support of anybody. My brother (AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi) can win 50 parliament seats for the party with the votes of our brethren.”
He also went on to allege that plans against Muslims are made in Parliament and Assemblies. “The laws that destroy Muslims are not made on roads, marketplaces or grounds but in Parliament and Assemblies. People of VHP, Bajrang Dal, and Narendra Modi, this country is not your father’s property. This country belongs to me as much as it belongs to you,” he was quoted as saying.
