Kamal Hassan, who doesn’t shy away from taking on Tamil Nadu’s ruling party AIADMK , has again slammed the state government regarding income tax raids at jailed party leader VK Sasikala and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s Chennai home.
On November 19, Hassan took to the microblogging site Twitter and tweeted in Tamil urging people to ‘wake up’ and ‘act’. With respect to the income tax raids, he said that theft by a government was a crime and that criminals should not rule.

On November 17, income tax officials conducted a raid at the office block of Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence. A laptop among other things was seized from the office block as well as from a room used by jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala. Sasikala is serving a four-year jail sentence for corruption charges.
The 63-year-old actor has time and again hinted at his wish to join politics by posting several opinionated tweets. He has met the chief ministers of Kerala and West Bengal in the recent past too. However, he has not joined any party.
Earlier this month, Hassan indicated that he may announce a party soon and will come up with its name by January next year. He announced the soon-to-be-launched whistleblower app, maiyamwhistle, which, according to him, the public could use to expose wrongdoings of the government.
Earlier in August, Hassan criticised the Tamil Nadu state government over EPS and OPS faction merger. He posted a sarcastic message on Twitter, saying,
Gandhi cap, saffron cap, Kashmir cap, and now clown’s cap. On the Tamilian’s head. Is this enough, or do you want more? Rise up Tamizha.
