Remember the evening of November 8 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi delegalised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes? The process was a secret. There was chaos all around. People were rushing to departmental stores, petrol pumps, McDonalds and Pizza Huts just to get their currency notes exchanged. I too remember rushing to Dominos to use my Rs 500 note. Though those with black money were thunderstruck, people of poor stratum were the most affected. Those with functions (specifically weddings) at home were confused as to what should they do.
There were arguments all over the television whether this step would lead to a better future at all. Opposition parties reacted angrily. While Prime Minister assured people that things will become easy after 50 days, team InUth went on the streets of Delhi and Noida to ask people about their views on demonetisation. We asked them to describe demonetisation in one word and also asked them if they are happy with the step. A large number of people appreciated the move and said that they are happy. We also asked them if the PM should resign after 50 days if the situation does not improvise to which they replied ‘Modi should not resign. Since India is a large country, therefore it will take time for things to get normal’. When asked what alternate did they use during demonetisation, most of the people told us that they used Paytm and plastic cards rather than standing in the queue for cash.
