Yogi Adityanath to end quota-based reservations in private medical, dental colleges in UP

The order for a quota for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes has already been passed

Just a month after taking over as the Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath has announced an end to quota-based reservations in private medical and dental colleges of Uttar Pradesh.

The order for a quota for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) has already been passed, a report in India Today said. However, India Today has not cited any official statement or source of the information.

During the past few days, he has taken several initiatives for the education sector. In a recent decision, the government said that it is planning to introduce English in UP government schools from nursery-level instead of class 6. The move according to the government is expected to blend nationalist and modern curricula.

“The traditional and the modern should blend. We should have an education system which promotes nationalism but is modern,” he was quoted as saying.

Not just English, the new Yogi Adityanath-led government is also likely to put in efforts to ensure that students learn at least one foreign language.

He also asked the state officials to make yoga education and self defence training compulsory in government schools. The statement issued read, “The Chief Minister directed that ‘Rani Laxmibai Aatmaraskha Kaaryakram’ (self defence programme) and ‘Yog Shiksha Kaaryakram’ (Yoga education programme) would be compulsory.”

The UP CM in the meeting also said that if incidents of mass copying come to notice and if teachers are found taking private tuition, FIRs should be registered.

The state government had also stated that guidelines should be issued in order put an end to the huge amount of fees that is charged by private schools and colleges. The CM emphasised on uniform syllabus to be followed by all the universities across the state and to make sure that the academic session in colleges take place on a regular basis.
