While addressing party workers in Chennai, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi said that to fight against RSS and BJP these days he is reading Upanishads and the Bhagwad Gita. Reactions started pouring in on social media soon after he made the statement.
“I ask them (RSS men), my friend, you are doing this, you are oppressing people, but it is written in the Upanishad that all people are the same and how come you are contradicting what your own religion says,” he was quoted as saying. He also alleged that BJP does not “understand India” fundamentally and “understand only Nagpur,” making a reference at RSS headquarters.
Rahul Gandhi went to Chennai on June 4 to be part of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief Karunanidhi’s 94th birthday celebrations where leaders of several opposition parties gathered to show unity.

At the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said that he shares special connect with the people of Tamil Nadu. He went on to say that he has “decided to start watching Tamil movies, and “read about the culture of Tamil Nadu people.” While talking about the “political confusion” that is prevalent in the state, he said that party should take advantage of it. “Tamil Nadu, in my mind is very important. Here you have the DMK, the AIADMK, but overall in Tamil Nadu, my feeling and understanding is that there is a political confusion,” he told functionaries.
