New Rs 200 currency notes to be released soon, RBI clears proposal

According to the sources, once the government officially approves this, the process of printing the new Rs 200 notes will probably begin after June

If rumours are to be believed, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon introduce currency notes of Rs 200. According to the reports published in various websites, RBI has cleared the proposal to introduce Rs 200 notes. The decision is this regard was already taken in a meeting held last month.

RBI has also proposed printing new Rs 1,000 notes.

According to the sources, “once the government officially approves this, the process of printing the new Rs 200 notes will probably begin after June.”

Reports published in IndiaToday said, “like Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100, the RBI is planning to bring, Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 1000 in future,” added the source.”

The new currency notes will come with additional security features.

The central bank has also proposed changing features of all notes every 3-4 years, to check counterfeiting and for better security. Only after demonetisation last year, changes were made in the Rs 500 note, which was launched in 1987.

Earlier on November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took everybody by surprise when he announced a demonetisation. He declared that the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes as invalid with immediate effect.

The roll back of the currency notes was made to fight against black money and fake notes in the market. Soon, new Rs 500 notes were introduced while Rs 2,000 currency notes were introduced for the first time.
