The names of Rajya Sabha MP and Women’s wing President Roopa Ganguly and BJP’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya- have been mentioned by a key accused in a child trafficking case
Chandana Chakraborty, the key accused in Jalpaiguri child trafficking racket , alleged on Tuesday that West Bengal Mahila Morcha general secretary Juhee Chowdhury lobbied with Ganguly and Vijayvargiya to influence the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) of Ministry of Women and Child Development to grant Central aid to Chandana and renew licences of her shelter homes, in lieu of expensive gifts.
Meanwhile, Juhee Chowdhury, who was absconding since her name cropped up in the trafficking racket, was arrested on Wednesday at Indo-Nepal border. She is being taken to Jalpaiguri Court. Juhee reportedly helped Chandana get orphanage licenses.
“I have not spoken to anyone (Central BJP leaders). Juhi spoke to them and perhaps to Roopa Ganguly and Kailash Vijayvargiya. I was sitting in another room when she spoke to them,” Ms. Chakraborty told reporters in Siliguri.
State’s Criminal Investigation Department last week busted the child trafficking racket and arrested Chandana and one of her associates.
Meanwhile, West Bengal CID has claimed that it has audio evidence of conversation between Juhee Chowdhury and Kailash Vijayvargiya’s secretary and based on Chandana’s allegations. they are also consiering to summon Vijayvargiya and Ganguly, besides Vijayvargiya’s secretary for interrogation.
The agency has stated that Chandana claimed that the negotiations with the two top-level ministers were finalised by Juhee who allegedly asked Chandana to pay expensive gifts to the two top BJP leaders.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vijayvargiya rubbished the allegations and accused the Kolkata Police of “being controlled by Trinammol Congress” and said that “they (Kolkata Police) keep conspiring against us.
“They have already targeted our party leaders Joyprakash Majumdar and Sishir Bajoria. Now they are conspiring against me,” Mr. Vijayvargiya said.
