Sasikala explains why Panneerselvam became Tamil Nadu’s chief minister after Jayalalithaa’s death

Attorney general Mukul Rohatgi has advised the Tamil Nadu governor to hold composite floor test in the Assembly.

AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala on Monday said that the Chief Minister’s post is not important for her and reiterated that it was she who pressed O. Panneerselvam to become the Chief Minister following Jayalalithaa’s death in December last year.

Addressing hundreds of supporters outside the Poes Garden Sasikala said: “After Jayalalithaa’s death, I told him (Panneerselvam) to become the Chief Minister.”

Further Sasikala assured the cadres that they all know the manner in which Panneerselvam betrayed the party.

“I have been with Amma for 33 years and I am used to threats,” she said. “What is happening now is not new.”

“With the party having a cadre strength of 1.5 crore no ‘komban’ (person with great skills) can break the AIADMK,” she told the cheering crowd.

“We have the strength to manage any number of enemies,” Sasikala said.

Sasikala and Panneerselvam are locked in a bitter power struggle in the AIADMK.

Earlier, Sasikala got emotional and revealed Amma’s last words to her. Sasikala who met the MLAs kept hidden at the Golden Bay resort made an emotional appeal to them urging them to keep the party united.

Sasikala claimed that Jayalalithaa’s last words were, “No one can destroy the party”. While addressing the MLAs Sasikala said that she had spent time in jail in the past and had no qualms in going to the jail again. This response comes in backdrop of her dispproportionate case pending in the Supreme Court. If not acquitted, she does not qualify to be the Chief Minister of the state and will also not be allowed to contest elections for six years.
