Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati appointed her brother Anand Kumar as the party’s Vice-President on Friday but on a condition that he will never become a Member of Parliament, MLA or Chief Minister. The announcement has come at a time when Kumar is under the scanner of Income Tax department for amassing assets worth Rs 1300 crore.
In connection with it, last week IT department raided various premises of businesses and firms linked to Kumar in Delhi and neighbouring areas. During Mayawati’s tenure as CM of UP, Kumar’s net worth grew from Rs 7.5 crore to Rs 1,316 crore.
Meanwhile, on allegations of a scam in selling sugar mills when her party was in the power, former Chief Minister of UP Mayawati said, “Being targetted so that I stop speaking on EVM tampering by BJP”. She added, “BSP has no reservation in taking help of anti-BJP parties in the fight against EVM tampering”.

After her party losing in UP assembly election and BJP registering landslide victory, Mayawati has alleged that EVM machines have tampered during polls and elections should be held again through a ballot system. She had said, “Most votes in Muslim majority constituencies have gone to BJP, makes it evident that voting machines were manipulated.”
After which, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and other opposition parties have raised doubt over the credibility of EVMs. The 13 member delegation of opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Left met President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier this week to intervene in the matter.
