Shameful! Statue of B.R. Ambedkar thrown in gutter in Kerala

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor reached the spot with the police officers after the act of vandalism came to light

In a shameful incident that took place on Sunday, a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Kerala’s Vazhavila was found in the gutter. The statue was first knocked down by some miscreants after which it fell down from its plinth and they later threw it.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor reached the spot with the police officers after the act of vandalism came to light. He informed about the incident on twitter.

Shashi Tharoor on twitter wrote, “Have asked police to take immediate action to apprehend the vandals a&not to let them off lightly. Public justifiably agitated. Shameful.”

Justifying the anger among people over the incident, he wrote that the police officers are looking into the matter and the immediate action will be taken against the culprits.

Police is investigating the matter to nab the vandals as early as possible. However, this is not the first time that such incident has happened. Few days back a statue of Dr Ambedkar was damaged by some vandals in a park in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. After the incidents came to notice, members of Dalit community informed about it to the police.

After which the FIR was registered by the police under section 153 A and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Also, a partially damaged statue of Dr Ambedkar was found in Pataudi district, Haryana.
