In what may come as a shock to many Indian cricket fans, the members of Indian cricket team have not been given the match fees for past six months and an incentive of Rs 1 crore promised to each member for their successful season. The reason attributed for the delay is an ongoing stand-off between the office bearers of BCCI and Committee of Administrators. Also, the board’s tiff with ICC over revenue.
In a report published in The Indian Express, one of the members of the cricket team and a regular player in the last season said, “Usually, we get our dues within a month or 15 days of a Test match but this time, the delay has been long. We don’t know what the reason is but such delays have never happened earlier,”
Earlier, players were given the fees within 2 months of the completion of a test. Each member playing XI for a test match is given Rs 15 lakh by the board whereas those on the bench are paid Rs 7 lakh each.
One of the top officials of the BCCI said, “The fees given to the members of the Indian cricket teams is delayed because of various issues. The BCCI didn’t have the official signatory in February and later there was confusion over whether Amitabh Choudhary (acting secretary) can clear these payments because only the secretary can give all approvals. As for the women’s payments, their agreement with BCCI is yet to be signed and once it is officially done, their payment will be released”.
