In what can be considered as a mass layoff, Indian e-commerce company, Snapdeal is all set to layoff over 600 employees across their e-commerce, logistics and payments operations. Acording to reports, the process of laying off employees has already begun in Snapdeal’s logistics department and the online recharge and payment business, Freecharge.
Reports suggest that the laying off process has been happening at all levels and that it will be finalised in the coming days. The company has asserted that the reason they have undertaken the laying off process is because they are trying to improvise their service to serve their customers in a better manner.
“On our journey towards becoming India’s first profitable e-commerce company in two years, it is important that we continue to drive efficiency across all parts of our business, which enables us to pass on the value to our consumers and sellers,” a spokesperson for the company told PTI.
“We have realigned our resources and teams to further these goals and drive high-quality business growth. Building on all of these substantial gains, Snapdeal expects to be the first profitable e-commerce company in India within two years,” the spokesperson added.
It is being reported that the company who reportedly has a strength of over 8000 employees is struggling hard to keep at par with its competitors, including Amazon and Flipkart and is making efforts to raise the revenue.
