In a shocking incident, an Indian cargo ship has been highjacked by a group of pirates in Somalia with 11 crew members on board. The ship, Al Kaushar was on its way from Dubai to Yemen’s Al Mukala port. The incident took place on April 1 and as learned from several media reports, a group of Somali pirates are responsible for the highjack and are carrying weapons with them.
The reports also stated that the captain of the highjacked cargo ship has given all the information about the incident to the authorities in Dubai. The information about the hijack of the ship has also been conveyed to the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi. The crew members present on the ship hail from Mandavi in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
In addition, all other naval authorities have been alarmed about the hijacking of the Indian ship. As reported by Times Now, strict orders have been ordered to be taken against the hijackers and rescue the Indians clogged in the ship.
Earlier on March 13, the Somali pirates had hijacked an oil tanker ship in the Indian Ocean and guided it to the coast of Puntland region. As per the sources, the hijacked ship was a merchant tanker carrying a flag of the United Arab Emirates. The regional officials are still assessing the circumstances of the hijack. In this incident, at least 8 pirates were involved who moved the ship towards the coast of Somalia in the vicinity of the coastal town Ras Asayr.
