In what seemed to be a perfect plot for a Bollywood potboiler, a man pushed his elder brother aside to wed his bride at the last moment at later’s marriage ceremony. The incident happened near Vellore’s Tirupattur area on June 1. It was supposed to be an arrange marriage at Bala Murugan Temple where the elder brother was to marry the 20-year-old bride from Rajapalayam.
According to a report in the India Today, when the priest asked the man to tie a thali (holy thread) around the bride’s neck, the man’s younger brother who was standing near him suddenly pulled out another thali kept in his shirt pocket and tied it to the bride. As expected, both the families were shocked to the core but the situation became more clear when the bride refused to remove the thali. Then it emerged that the affair between the two began when the younger brother had gone to her house to arrange the marriage for his elder brother.
The bride’s side, however, picked a quarrel with the younger brother and forcibly removed the thali from bride’s neck. Frustrated over the unexpected turn of events, the elder brother left the venue, since then he has been missing. The groom’s kin had also lodged a missing complaint at Tirupattur taluk police station, but it was withdrawn within an hour.
