This case of a Telangana woman killing her husband reads like a sinister movie plot

Swathi Reddy fell in love with another man post marriage, and after having watched the Telugu film Yevadu, devised a plan to be rid of her husband

A 28-year-old woman from Telangana murdered her husband, with help from her boyfriend, whose face she later disfigured, so she could pass him off as her husband. Sounds a lot like a plot straight out of a twisted thriller, right? Well, that is because she drew inspiration from an actual movie.

The accused, Swathi Reddy, fell in love with another man after her marriage. After watching the Telugu film “Yevadu”, the woman devised a plan to get rid of her husband, an India Today report stated.

The Nagarkurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Lakshmi Narayana told The Hindu that the woman smashed her husband’s head and burnt his body before dumping it in a forest. But here’s where it gets really intense. Swathi burnt her lover Rajesh’s face with petrol and admitted him to a hospital under the name of her husband, Sudhakar Reddy. She was even armed up with a whole background story about how four people broke into their house and disfigured “her husband’s” face.

Murder

The husband’s family fell for the cooked up story and provided Rs 5 lakh for the injured man’s treatment. However, the family soon started getting suspicious once the lover’s face started to heal. They also found the injured man’s behaviour to be different and not akin to their son’s mannerisms.

When the police were informed, they cross-checked Rajesh’s biometric against Sudhakar’s, thus busting the impostor. During interrogation, the cops found out about Swathi’s involvement in the crime and discovered that Sudhakar was actually murdered on November 26. Both Swathi and Rajesh have now been sent to judicial custody.
