In 1994, Friederike Irina Bruning, a German national came to India on her first solo trip. During her stay in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, she found that stray cows were living in a deplorable condition. Disturbed by their plight, she decided to stay back. She has since then devoted her life to take care of cows.
Bruning, better known as Sudevi Mataji, has been conferred with Padma Shri for dedicating her life towards cattle welfare. She runs Radha Surabhi Goshala, a shelter home that looks after sick, injured and abandoned cows. The shelter home looks after 1800 cows and calves where they are given food, shelter and medical care. The operational expenses are managed by
the rent from her inherited property in Germany
She now wants the Indian govt to provide her with a long term visa or an Indian citizenship.
