The decision of a 200% hike was taken after the government realised that a cabinet secretary draws a salary which is higher than the President.

Not just the President, the proposal to increase the salary of the Vice President and Governors has also been approved. The Vice President who currently earns Rs. 1.10 lakh a month will be getting Rs. 3.5 lakh a month. The decision will impact the former Presidents too. Pranab Mukherjee will get a pension of Rs. 1.5 lakh after he demits office on July 24.
