Commuters travelling from Delhi are facing extreme difficulties to get a ride from Delhi to Gurgaon as the cab aggregators including Ola and Uber are refusing to take rides for Gurgaon because of the new motor tax launched by the Haryana government.
According to reports, a number of drivers have a staged a protest against the order and are refusing rides to Gurgaon to Delhi. A report in Hindustan Times stated that the drivers are unhappy and are unwilling to pay Rs 100 everytime they enter Haryana.
“After two unsuccessful attempts, an Ola driver agreed to ply towards Gurgaon. One driver said he is part of a protest and is joining the protesters at Central Delhi while another said the lines at the border for payment of taxes deter him from heading there,” the daily quoted one of the Delhi resident as saying adding that he managed to get a ride after two failed attempts since the other drivers said that they were going to joining the protest with their fellow cab drivers.
This comes in the wake of the motor tax according to which, all the taxis entering Haryana will have to shell out Rs 100. Earlier, the taxis had to pay tax of Rs 950 every three months. The new tax system has also led massive queues and disruption.
“Drivers have to stand in queues for nearly an hour before they can pay their taxes. When we had protested against app-based aggregators earlier this year, the Haryana government had intervened and gave us reassurance that driver’s demands will be fulfilled and ease their lives. However, the new tax collection system has only added to the burden,” president of Sarvodaya Drivers Association Kamaljeet Singh told Hindustan Times.
