Three local Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists have been killed by security forces in an ongoing encounter in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Three AK47 rifles have also been recovered from the terrorists.
The encounter broke out on Sunday between militants and security forces in Gujerbasti area of Awoora in Pahalgam. Security forces launched a search operation over an intelligence input about the presence of an unspecified number of militants in Awoora village in Pahalgam area.
The security forces cordoned off the Awoora village in Pahalgam after getting information about the terrorists. As the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants fired at them. Security forces retaliated resulting in an encounter.
“While the forces were conducting a search operation, the hidden terrorists fired at them and they retaliated, beginning an encounter,” said an officer from the force.

Soon after the encounter broke out, the additional reinforcement of para-commandos rushed to prevent the militants from escape.
Earlier on January 3, one terrorist was killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Haritar Tarzoo area in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces had recovered arms and ammunition from the possession of the terrorists.
Recently, the Central government had informed the Rajya Sabha that a total of 146 terrorists have been killed in 97 incidents of encounter between in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016.
