The UK High Court has ordered absconding liquor baron Vijay Mallya to pay 13 Indian banks a minimum of 2 lakh pounds (1.8 crore approx) in legal fees by July 5.
As part of the judgment, the court has also ordered Mallya, to pay costs towards registration of the worldwide freezing order and of the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) of Karnataka’s judgment in Britain, PTI reported. “The court ordered that Mallya pay the banks’ costs. The standard order is that the court will assess those costs unless the parties can otherwise agree a figure for what should be paid,” a legal expert familiar with the case told the news agency.
Last month, the UK High court had already refused to overturn a worldwide order freezing Mallya’s assets and said that he can be regarded as a “fugitive from justice”. Social media users reacted to the monetary penalty with a pinch of salt. While some lauded the ruling calling it a good beginning, other termed the court order too little too late.

Then there were some who welcomed the order
A strong political will has finally begun to bring in results. More will follow simply because the intent of the “will” is honest.
