SC liquor ban impact: Entire Chandigarh may go dry from April 1, know why

The Supreme Court’s ban on liquor shops near state and national highways from April 1 may leave the entire Chandigarh city dry as almost all major roads in the UT are state highways. As a result, every liquor shop in the city falls within the ambit of the apex court’s judgment and are worryingly eyeing a shutdown from April 1.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 Phase 5 Live updates: Voter turnout of 10.77% recorded till 9 AM

The polling in the fifth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 for 51 seats in 11 districts began on February 27. A voter turnout of 61 % was recording during the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly election. Polling went peaceful in most of the areas, however, locals in Fatehpur’s Khera boycotted polling over developmental issues. There is a tight contest between the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Congress alliance, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). 607 candidates in the fray in the fifth phase. The 11 districts include Ayodhya, Balrampur, Gonda, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Amethi and Sultanpur. Getting rape threats, called anti-national for speaking against ABVP: Kargil martyr’s daughter

Daughter of Kargil Martyr’s daughter, Gurmehar Kaur who came out to speak against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) in the wake of the violent clashes at Ramjas College of Delhi University has now claimed that she has been receiving rape threats and being called anti-national for taking a stand against the group.

While speaking to a TV news channel, Gurmehar revealed that some people have been threatening her since the time she spoke against the group post the clashes in the college. Read here
