Mumbai’s Malhar Kalambe was honoured by the United Nations for spearheading a massive clean-up drive at Dadar beach. The 21-year-old and his team have removed nearly 1,000 tonnes of trash from the sea shore. On September 10, 2017, Kalambe and his friends started a weekend drive to clean the dirty beach. The initiative, called Beach Please, has now turned into a mass-movement after 20,000+ Mumbaikars participated in it. Cleaning Dadar beach made Kalambe’s team realise that the source of the trash was Mithi river which had domestic and industrial waste clogging it. His team now dedicates Saturdays to Mithi river and Sundays to Dadar beach.
