Union Minister Prakash Javadekar launches mobile app to detect ragging in colleges

Prakash Javadekar mentioned that previously, a student had to visit the website in order to register his/her complaint against ragging but now, this new app will enable them to file complaint right from their smartphones for quick proceedings

Taking a tough stand against ragging, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar launched an anti-ragging mobile app introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) which will help students register complaints against ragging. He said that physical and mental torture of a new student won’t be tolerated by the government anymore.

Immediate action would be taken on all the complaints received on this app, promised Javadekar, as per a Ministry statement. He also stated that this kind of activities to be completely eliminated from the college campuses.

Javadekar mentioned that previously, a student had to visit the website in order to register his/her complaint against ragging. However, the government records have shown that number of such actions has been decreased by actions taken time and again but now, it should be removed from the roots.

He said,”Any kind of physical or mental torture to a student is a ragging and we won’t allow such practices. It is totally unacceptable and this newly launched app will work as a handy tool for any student who goes through such experience.”

“It is a good step for protection and will give a feeling of security to students,” Javdekar added.
Cautioning those who indulge in ragging, Javadekar said such students will not be allowed to continue their education in the institution. “At the same time they will meet severe penalty and punishment as per the law,” he said.

As stated by the Human Resource Development Minister, the app will work on android system and students can log in and register their complaints instantaneously. Accordingly, all concerned will be informed and action will be initiated immediately. However, the Minister expressed hope that good senior students will act as mentors for their juniors.
