Union foreign secretary S Jaishankar on Wednesday summoned Pakistan high commissioner Abdul Basit in the aftermath of Uri terror attacks.
The foreign secretary told the Pakistan high commissioner that even now two encounters between terrorists and Indian army are underway at the border.
“Uri attack shows that terror machinery in Pakistan is still thriving,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, said.
“We demand that Pakistan lives up to its public commitment of not allowing terror against India,” he added.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar admitted that “something must have been wrong” because of which the Uri terror attack took place, and added that if required India is capable of “knee jerk reaction”.
The minister, however, did not speak about the nature of reaction and added that the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take a call on it.
He stressed that the government “is very serious” about it.
“Something must have been wrong… Though I will not go into details of it because it is a very sensitive matter.
When something goes wrong while you try to correct it you should also ensure that it does not happen again,” Parrikar said at an event.
Eighteen soldiers died in the terror attack on an army camp in Uri, in Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. Four terrorists who attacked the camp were also killed.
