Victim of child marriage, sisters move Bombay HC against parents, claim threat to life

The Bombay High Court also directed the cops to record statements of the girls under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before a magistrate.

Two sisters have moved Bombay High Court fearing for their lives at the hands of relatives and their parents, after they refused to go with men who they were allegedly married off to at the age of three by their parents. According to reports, the girls are aged between 20-25 years.

According to a DNA report, the Bombay HC immediately asked the Dahisar police to provide proper protection to the girls. The girls moved the court after the husband of one girl with whom she had eloped and married against her parents wishes, was allegedly murdered by her relatives, after assaulting him.

The police registered a case under section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code and have arrested four relatives of the girls.

The court also directed the cops to record statements of the girls under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before a magistrate.

The girls who have moved out of the parental home reportedly said that they are afraid that their parents or relatives will kill them. The incident of murder and alleged threats has been carried out since the past one year.

The police in-charge has, on the directions of the Bombay HC, recorded the statements of the girls before the magistrate. The girls’ whereabouts have been kept secret based on the directions of the court, suggested the report.
