In yet another incident of police brutality in Uttar Pradesh, a video has gone viral since April 28 in which a police officer is seen thrashing an old age rickshaw puller in Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station premises.
The video showed the police officer beating and dragging an elderly rickshaw puller after an argument took place during an anti-encroachment drive in the area.
The policeman in the video has been identified as Vishwajit Singh from GRP (Government Railway Police).
Meanwhile, moments after the video came to light, the GRP force took cognisance of the matter and suspended the policeman.
According to India Today sources, the old man got into an argument with the policeman after they refused to let him gather passengers from near the police station.

The man also accused another policeman Amar Singh, the station in-charge, of seeking extortion.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already sent a strong message to all those police officers indulging in violence and disrupting law and order in the state.
Soon after CM Adityanath took office, more than 100 policemen, mostly constables, were suspended as per the directives of the DGP to identify the black sheep in the department.
Most of these suspensions were in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Noida. In Lucknow itself, seven inspectors were suspended.
Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister transferred 84 IAS and 54 IPS officers including 38 district magistrates and 33 district police chiefs. Sending a strong message he said, ‘those who create nuisance will not be spared.’
