At least 24 people were killed after boat carrying 40 passenger capsized and sunk in Patna city of Bihar on 14 January. The incident took place in the evening when the boat was ferrying passengerd in the Ganga river in Patna.
The rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a massive rescue operation. The rescue operations are still on with the teams still looking for the missing number of people. The injured have been rushed to the hospital and have been undergoing treatment.
According to reports, it is being reported that the incident took place because the boat was carrying passengers beyond its capacity. The mishap took place when a number if people gathered there to celebrate Makar Sankranti.
A dramatic footage has emerged that has managed to capture just moments before the boat capsized. In the video, you see the boat capsizing and sinking taking people with it. While some can be seen making desperate attempts to swim and get out, some were seen going alog the boat.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an enquiry into the matter and directed the officials to find out the exact cause of the unfortunate incident. The police has registered an FIR against boat operator in Sonpur Police Station.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the incident and have announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 tot hose injured in the tragedy.
