In yet another case of cow vigilantism, a man was brutally thrashed and roughed by cow vigilantes or gau rakshaks over suspicion of cow slaughtering in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh on May 14. According to reports, the police officials have arrested four people while a manhunt has been launched to nab others into the matter.

In the video shared by news agency ANI, group of 5-7 men can be seen thrashing a man and getting beaten with belts while another was recording the whole incident on the mobile phone.

In the video, the alleged gau rakshaks can be heard saying ‘gaye kaatega…, gaye kaatega.’ (You’ll slaughter cow) again and again.

The man being thrashed has identified himself as Appu and can be heard saying that he has been running a hotel for past 4 years.

The victim who sustained severe injuries after the incident was rushed to the nearby hospital.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is facing criticism in connection with law and order situation in the state especially over the loss of lives at the hands of cow vigilantes, urged people not to act in haste but take the help of law to fight crime.

“There is no need to take law in your hand; if you find something illegal happening around go to the police and let them act, you don’t need to take the law into your hand,” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.
