We Now Live In A World Where Teenagers Land Up In ICU For Posting 'LOL' Emojis On YouTube

It's not the first time when a spat on social media argument escalated into a full-fledged fight

Mocking the work of two wannabe YouTubers landed a teenager in Intensive Care Unit. 18-year-old Sagar, a resident of Bengaluru’s Girinagar area, would often post LoL as comment or react with joker emojis on content that Dharshan and Naveen, the budding YouTubers of his area would upload. However, the duo apparently took offense to Sagar’s comments and decided to teach him a lesson.

On Sunday, when Sagar returned home after delivering newspaper, the duo reached his house and asked him to come out. Sensing trouble, Sagar locked the door and called his friends for help but by the time help arrived, the attackers climbed the two storeys and barged into his room. They attacked Sagar with knuckle-dusters and fled from the spot.

Sagar sustained a deep injury on the head and he passed out due to excessive bleeding; he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sagar’s mother Rani S, who was at her shop during the time of the incident told Banaglore Mirror that she has come to know through his friends that the attack was over some comments on Facebook. The two had tried to attack him during recently held Kannada Rajyotsava function over same issue.

“Even if my son had made some comments that the two did not like, they should have taken it up with us instead of attacking him so brutally,” she added.

The accused, both in their early 20s, were later arrested by Girinagar police. Meanwhile, the two have confessed to attacking Sagar over his Facebook comments.

It’s not the first time when a spat on social media argument escalated into a full-fledged fight. In an incident earlier this year, a person lost his life over such a spat.

In June 2018, an argument ensued after Luv Kumar, one of its member accidentally shared a personal photo in a WhatsApp group meant to bring the goldsmith community together in Haryana’s Sonepat. Luv Kumar and Dinesh first fought over on WhatsApp then the two argued on telephone. However, the two along with their group of followers tried to settle it down with a fight which resulted in death of Luv Kumar while his followers suffered grievous injuries.

In September 2016, Manish Shah, a Dadar-based steel polishing trader ended up stabbing Shreyas Navalkar (21), a production design student after the latter mocked Shah on a Whatsapp group chat.
