Heavy downpour in Mumbai has left the city struggling yet again. The incessant rainfall has led to flight delays, disruption of road and rail traffic. Thousands of commuters had to wade through the water logged roads trying to make it home safely.
Amid this chaos, there was a group of samaritans lending a helping hand to those stranded on the roads. A social media user, Chandrika Sen, shared a post describing how these four brothers were offering free ride to people on their truck: “Shahnawaz, Nadeem and his brothers are helping people stranded at Ghatkopar station to get up (sic) to Thane in their truck. They are making several stops along the Eastern Express Highway to ensure people get home safe and comfortable.”
She also underscored how such gestures become more crucial at a time when commuters are left on their own by a partially-paralyzed public transport system.
“Autos refused fare – ‘aapko chodke wapas kaise ayenge’. Bus after bus parked along the streets – ‘drivers chale gaye’. App cabs – well, ‘no cars available’…We pay exorbitantly for public transport because we don’t have wings attached to our backs or wheels descending below our feet. On days when we are stranded, cold, claustrophobic, and even scared, our go-to modes decide to cut themselves from us for reasons of their own,” she added.
Netizens were all praise for these brothers for their humanitarian gesture
