But who is Mahua Moitra?
The 44-year-old is an MP from Trinamool Congress and represents Krishnanagar in West Bengal. She won her first Lok Sabha seat in 2019 elections after defeating BJP’s Kalyan Chaubey Born in Kolkata, she moved to the United States with her family at the age of 15. She studied at Economics & Mathematics at the Massachusetts’ Mount Holyoke College She worked as an investment banker with JP Morgan in New York & London. A former MLA from Karimpur in Nadia district, Mahua also served as the party spokesperson. In 2015, she courted controversy during a live TV show for showing middle finger to news anchor. In 2018, she was allegedly detained and manhandled by Assam Police at Silchar airport where she had gone to attend an event against National Register of Citizens.
