In a horrendous incident, a 30-year-old man chopped off a 15-year-old girl’s hand with a sword in a busy market area in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Even though the exact reason for the attack has not been ascertained as yet, it is being reported that the man attacked the girl after she allegedly refused his advances. The accused has however claimed that the girl had stolen his phone’s charger.
The incident took place at around 3 pm in the middle of a market place where the man identified as Rohit Chaurasiya went on to chop the girl’s hand and also injuring the other hand while the teenager continued to cry in pain. The girl also suffered head injuries. The man was stopped by a crowd of people who had gathered when the attack took place. The accused also reportedly tried to escape but was stopped by the eye witnesses.
“One of her hands fell off, while the man kept striking at her other hand even as people overpowered him and rescued the girl from certain death,” an eyewitness was quoted as saying.
A special ambulance was called in and the girl was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The girl who is a class 9 student was later shifted to King George’s Medical University trauma centre in Lucknow. The police who is currently investigating the matter stated that the man was the girl’s neighbour and was known to her and her family members.
The police further said that it was only after the girl’s statement was recorded will they be able to ascertain the motive of the attack. A FIR has been registered and the accused has been charged with murder. The girl reportedly belongs to a family with a poor financial condition. The girl lives at Baburam Sarrafnagar with her blind mother, father and siblings.
