Why has no jawan from Gujarat been martyred, asks Akhilesh Yadav

"Jawans from UP, Madhya Pradesh, South India and every state have been martyred, tell me if any jawan from Gujarat has been martyred", said Akhilesh

In a shocking incident, former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday made an insensitive statement on the jawans who have lost their lives. Giving their sacrifices a political turn, Akhilesh asked why no jawan from Gujarat has been martyred till date.

While speaking to news agency ANI, Akhilesh said, “UP, Madhya Pradesh, Dakshin Bharat har jagah se shaheed huye hain, Gujarat ka koi jawan shaheed hua ho toh batao” (Jawans from UP, Madhya Pradesh, South India and every state have been martyred, tell me if any jawan from Gujarat has been martyred)

His statement comes just a day after 22-year-old army officer Ummer Fayaz was killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. It was five months ago when Fayaz had joined the army. He was abducted by terrorists on Tuesday while he was attending a family wedding. According to reports, Fayaz was dragged by five-six militants from his relatives place. He was then taken to Herman Chowk where he was shot dead. Early morning on May 10 his body was found with bullets in his head and abdomen in Shopian.

A few days back, SP patron and Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav had said that it was his mistake to make his son the CM after winning elections in 2012. He went on to say, “Had I been the chief minister, the Samajwadi Party couldn’t have suffered such a major debacle in the recently held assembly election. The party would have achieved the required numbers to form government in the state.”
