Manmohan Singh Lodhi from Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh is a national level para-athlete. The 28-year-old sprinter won two silvers in 100m and 200m sprint at the 35th National Games for para-athletes held in Ahmedabad in 2017. But now, this sportsperson has been forced to beg on the streets of Bhopal, thanks to state government’s apathy.
Lodhi took to begging on streets as a move to protest against the state government. “Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that para-athletes who win medals in competitions will get government jobs. I have met him four times and he even promised to help. But as of now, nothing has materialised,” he told ANI.
He also added that the government has neither given him the promised prize money nor has it offered any other financial assistance. With his protest, he hopes that the government looks into the issue and gives him his dues.
