On Monday, a couple was allegedly thrashed by the middle-aged commuters for hugging in the Kolkata metro. The incident had sparked an uproar across social media, as people debated whether PDA should be permissible within the confines of “Indian culture”. While a larger section of the youth reacted aggressively to the incident, some youngsters chose a different way to protest against it — by offering free hugs.
On Tuesday, a group of youngsters stood outside the Dum Dum metro station, where the alleged incident occurred, and offered free hugs. “Hugging is not something visually perverted, it’s a sign of affection,” a protestor told ANI. Reportedly, a similar protest was also held at the Tollygunge station on Wednesday.
