After learning that his husband has pronounced her triple talaq and is also not letting her enter the house, the wife sat on dharna. Rehana, a resident of Aligarh got to know about talaq from her neighbours and since then she is sitting on dharna. She said, “I want to go in. I will die but won’t leave from here until I am taken in”.
The couple is married for more than five years. Rehana ‘s father said that her in-laws started demanding money three years after the marriage. “My daughter is married for five years. After three years, they started asking for money. I gave them 10 lakh cash,” said Rehana’s father.
She had been living with her parents for past one year. On Wednesday she tried to get into her husband’s home but was not allowed to enter. Later, from her neighbours she got to know that her husband has given her talaq and preparations of another marriage are going on.
After the incident came to light, Kumar Verma, Inspector at Civil Lines Police Station, “The man is not taking his wife inside his residence. Once we will make both the parties sit and talk only then we will get to know what the matter is. We haven’t been able to get in touch with the boy’s family.”
Earlier, the Supreme Court had observed that practices of ‘Triple Talaq’, ‘Nikah Halala’ and polygamy among Muslims were important issues involving “sentiments”. The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court will begin hearing into triple talaq case from May 11.
