The new Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is liekly to move to the state chief minister’s lush bungalow that is apparently considered as ‘jinxed’ by the former CMs of the state. The well-wishers of the new CM are reportedly advising him to not shift to the particular residence.
Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat also reportedly never moved into the bungalow believing that the house was cursed and any chief minister residing there could never complete his full term. The reason for this is apparently a “vastu” fault. Spread over 60 acres, the chief ministerial bungalow is located in the posh area of New Cantt Road. The bungalow also has 60 rooms.
Despite the way it has been built, no CM has lived there for the last three years. Even ex CM Harish Rawat who was forced to resign post the president’s rule in the state also resided at the state guest house soon after took charge as CM again. However, he could not complete his full term despite taking these measures.
In 2010, former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank moved into the bungalow but was replaced by BJP’s Maj General (retd) BC Khanduri in a year’s time. However, Khanduri who did not move into the house because of the superstition but was replaced in two years time. Ex CM Vijay Bahuguna who did move the CM residence met same fate and was replaced by Harish Rawat in two years.
Even though the new CM Trivendra Singh has held press conferences in the official residence, it is still clear whether he will move into the residence. Rawat was unanimously elected the leader of BJP legislative party. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Krishna Kant Paul at the Parade Ground. He succeeded Congress leader Harish Rawat to become the eighth Chief Minister of the hill state.
