At a time when tall claims are made about improving the educational facilities in India, a picture of primary school students studying in a toilet instead of a classroom in Madhya Pradesh tell a different tale altogether.
The photo truly belies the tall claims of the Madhya Pradesh government about its efforts to improve education in the state. According to a Hindustan Times report, the students are being forced to study in a disused toilet as there’s no school building.
Notably, the primary school is run by a single teacher only. Despite being situated nearly 35 km away from the Neemuch district headquarters, nobody pays heed towards this school. Shockingly, the local MLA is not even aware that such a school exists in his constituency.
The school was set up in 2012. Till 2013, the school functioned out of a rented room, but after that, it wasn’t available.
The children are forced to study in a toilet that was built by the government. And that’s not the only bad thing! Sometimes a few goats are tied in the same toilet – to prevent them from getting wet in the rain.
School teacher Kailash Chandra says that he has been forced to take classes in the toilet because there is no school building.

“I have informed the authorities about the condition a number of times over the years, but no one is paying any attention,” said the school teacher according to the HT report.
But when Manasa BJP MLA Kailash Chawla was questioned, he simply refused to acknowledge that there was any school in his constituency where children were studying in a toilet.
However, the district education office KC Sharma said that he had written to the state education department about the situation and had sent proposal for construction of a school building.
