The Noida Police have lodged an FIR against a person who allegedly threatened a news anchor of a leading Hindi news channel with rape through a facebook post. The accused with a profile name of Sandeep Upadhyay was booked under Sector 66A of the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000 and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) for posting highly objectionable comment on the Facebook wall of the woman journalist who works for a popular Hindi news channel in Noida, police said.
“A news anchor of a Hindi news channel approached us with a complaint of being harassed on a social networking site by posting objectionable content,” Bijendra Singh Bhadana, SHO, Sector 49 police station told Hindustan Times. The woman visited the police station on March 22 and lodged a complaint against him. However, the police is yet to ascertain whether the comment was put using a fake account or an original account.
The SHO also said that the person knew that the woman journalist was a critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party. “The man wrote , ‘(UP mein rehna hai toh Yogi Yogi kehna hai (if you want tom live in UP, Chant Yogi Yogi)’ which she refused to do in the comments section. Following her response, the man threatened to rape her,” he added.
Meahwhile, the police is taking help of cyber crime department to trace the IP address from which the message was posted. Once the IP address is traced they can get closer to identifying the person who posted it, he added.
