Women can’t be in Bengal for 15 days and not get raped, claims Roopa Ganguly

Commenting on the ongoing crisis in West Bengal, Roopa Ganguly lashed out at TMC saying Women can't be in Bengal for 15 days without getting raped

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Roopa Ganguly recently unleashed a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by daring the people supporting the Trinamool Congress and Congress to send their daughters, wives to Bengal and survive 15 days without getting raped.

“I dare all the parties, the ones who keep flattering the West Bengal Government and the Congress, to send their daughters, sisters-in-law, wives to Bengal, without taking any hospitality from Mamata Banerjee. If they are able to survive there for 15 days without getting raped, then tell me,” Ganguly told ANI.

The remarks stirred row with the TMC supporters trained their guns against Roopa Ganguly slamming he portraying a negative picture of West Bengal. Responding to her remarks West Bengal Power Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay lashed out at her asking her to reveal how many times had she been raped in the state. ‘First of all, she should say how many times she has been raped in Bengal. Before accusing anything or anyone, she should reveal this. Then only the truth behind her statement will be realized,’ he told ANI.

‘Politics will be there, but over and above everything, Bengal is our motherland. If she wants to get some political mileage, she can say all this rubbish, but I don’t think the people of the region will accept this language because ultimately it is an insult to the people,’ he added.

Meanwhile, BJP backed Roopa Ganguly and urged people to not by her words but the feelings that are attached to it.”Don’t go by the words; go by the feeling behind it. What Roopa said is not wrong. The situation of women is very bad in the state. The wordings used may have been altered, but her stance is not incorrect. She has spoken on what the situation is presently,” ANI quoted BJP leader Rahul Sinha as saying.
