Wreckage of Sukhoi-30 found in Arunachal Pradesh, three days after it went missing

Three days after Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Sukhoi- 30 aircraft went missing, the wreckage of the jet was found today in Arunachal Pradesh. The aircraft went missing some time after it took off from Salonibari airbase on Tuesday morning in Tezpur in Assam.

There were two pilots on board when it the aircraft went missing 60 km from Tejpur. Reportedly, there were bad weather conditions when the jet lost contact near China border. As per some initial reports, the last contact was made with the Sukhoi-30 jet at around 11:30 am in Lakhimpur area. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Sombit Ghosh said, “Bad weather in the area is hampering the operation. The fate of the two pilots is not known yet”.

However, China on Wednesday said it did not have any information on the missing Indian jet, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said, “First of all, on the eastern section of China-India border, our position is consistent and clear. We have been following the situation in South Tibet (the term China uses for Arunachal Pradesh) very closely”.  He added, “As for the situation you mentioned, I have no relevant information to offer at the moment”.

A few months back, a Sukhoi-30 MKI jet got crashed in Shivkur Kudla village in Barmer district of Rajasthan.Three villagers were injured in the incident.
