Writer Anuja Chauhan calls PM Modi ‘insensitive’ for his Blue Whale challenge jibe

PM Narendra Modi citing the Blue Whale challenge in his election speech is not only insensitive but highly objectionable

Writer Anuja Chauhan, known for the bestseller “Baaz”, has sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Blue Whale challenge remark at an election rally in Patan, Gujarat. In a retort to Congress’ allegations of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being hacked through bluetooth, Modi said, “…the Congress is “entrapped” in ‘Blue Whale’ challenge and will see the final episode on December 18.”

Calling the PM ‘insensitive, unsympathetic, ill-informed & ill-advised’, Chauhan posted a strong post on Twitter:

Our Prime Minister just made a Blue Whale ‘joke.’ Trying to be witty? To show he’s ‘with it’? You don’t make jokes about desperately unhappy children being driven to suicide by bullies, Mr PM. All it proves is that you are insensitive, unsympathetic, ill-informed & ill-advised. pic.twitter.com/hSqpDTxAaf

Agreeing to Anuja, Twitter also reacted to PM Modi’s highly objectionable and insensitive remark:

Ms Chauhan the man does not nor do his supporters understand that it is an insensitive & cruel joke on misguided children ,really appalling

Did we not know that since 2002? And he has reiterated many times since then

For the uninitiated, the Blue Whale challenge is an online suicide game that has allegedly claimed three lives in India this year and over 130 around the world. As a part of the challenge, an administrator, assigned to every participant, supervises the tasks of the game. What makes the challenge deadly is its final stage, which commands that the participant commit suicide.

Referring to the Blue Whale challenge in his election speech, the Prime Minister drew criticism for trivialising the menace that the game has inflicted. Twitter users were understandably miffed with Modi’s comments and pointed out that he was in a way promoting the suicide game, taking political mud-slinging to a whole new level.

Wow.. Invoking the blue whale challenge.? When the country’s top court had to order I&B and other agencies to educate children to stay away from thay game here is our prime minister promoting it by using rhetorics in his speeches .. Proud of u.. Hail modi

Have we, India, really come to This?

It’s a horrific guided suicide algorithm which has consumed hundreds of children’s lives worldwide.

To make a mockery in such sadistic taste is putting the entire nation to shame. @OfficeOfRG @priyankac19

Please don’t trivialize something like the Blue Whale game by using it in everyday mud-slinging.
