Weddings in India, especially arranged marriages are a big deal. Right from scanning through several matrimonial sites and finding the perfect match to hiring a wedding detective to run a thorough background check, parents leave no stone unturned to make make sure everything is in order.
But, despite all the intricate planning, there are times when things go wrong, for instance, the detective agency not providing accurate formation. Something similar happened with a family in Kolkata.
According to the reports published by Times of India, a family hired a detective agency to verify the information provided by a prospective bride from Chandigarh. The Kolkata family who came across the bride’s profile through an advertorial hired a private detective from Mohali to get the job done.
The groom’s family paid the agency’s owner Nirmal Chandra Bhalla Rs 10,000 and received the information in three emails. But, the groom’s family was somehow not convinced with the girl’s higher education provided by the detective agency.
And so, the family demanded a proof of the girl’s higher education. The agency failed to fulfill the request and allegedly stopped responding. When the family visited Mohali, they were shocked to find out that the girl’s details provided by the agency were completely false.
The groom’s mother who is the principal of an eminent school in Kolkata approached the consumer forum to file a case against the agency. When the court summoned the agency, nobody showed up.
The court ordered the agency to compensate the family Rs 26,000, of this, Rs 10,000 was the fee charged, and Rs 16,000 was the travel cost borne by the groom’s family to visit Mohali.
