Yet another man held for posting ‘objectionable’ image of Yogi Adityanath. Here’s a list of people booked so far

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida for allegedly posting an objectionable photograph of chief minister Yogi Adityanath and for making derogatory comment against him on Facebook.

The accused, identified as Rahat Khan, is a resident of Greater Noida’s Dankaur area. He was arrested after a complaint of Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth outfit founded by Adityanath.

“A case has been registered and the accused has been arrested,” said Dankaur police station in charge Rajpal Tomar. According to the complaint, Khan uploaded the objectionable photo of the UP CM and posted comments on his Facebook page. “We have arrested him under the IT act and he will be produced in the city court on Friday.” Tomar added. However, the accused told the police that he did not know who had posted the photo from his account.

Rahat  is the latest in the string of arrests made for making derogatory remark or posting objectionable  image  against the controversial leader.

1) Karnataka: On March 21, BJP Yuva Morcha lodged a criminal complaint against a woman in Bengaluru for posting “obscene, morphed and tampered” images of Yogi Adityanath on social media.

“The BJP Yuva Morcha members filed a complaint against Prabha N Belavangala for uploading objectionable posts on her Facebook page, depicting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister in a poor light,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) S Ravi told PTI.

The sections she has been charged under includes  defamation, promoting enmity on grounds of religion and conducting mischief as well as offences under the IT Act, 2000.

2) Maharashtra: On the day when Yogi Adityanath took oath as new UP CM, a 19 year-old-man was held for  allegedly posting an image of a warrior king with the face of new Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Facebook.

The accused Rinku Gupta was  booked for hurting the feelings of a community. He was placed under arrest by the Pant Nagar police in Ghatkopar East.

People in Kamraj Nagar (Ghatkopar East) saw the image on Saturday night and then informed the Sambhaji Brigade, who found the post offensive, the Indian Express reported.

“Members of the Sambhaji Brigade went to the home of the accused on Sunday, who immediately apologised and deleted the post. However, they insisted that he should face legal action and brought him to the police station,” a senior officer told the daily.

3) Uttar Pradesh: Another arrest was made in UP’s Ghazipur on March 20, this time the accused was  a 25-year-old man  who allegedly uploaded an “objectionable” picture of Yogi Adityanath on a fake Facebook account, hours after he was sworn in as the UP chief minister.

The accused was identified as Badshah Abdul Razak who is a resident of Professors Colony in Ghazipur district near Varanasi. He  uploaded the image Sunday night and it was circulated on social media, police said. He created a fake account to hide his identity.

4)  West Bengal: A Bengali poet was booked on March 21 for posting a poetry that allegedly targets Yogi Adityanath and questions his appointment as chief minister.  a college student Arnab Sarkar filed a case against Srijato Bandyopathyay for hurt Hindu religious sentiments through his poem. Ironically, the poetry, ‘Abhshaap’ was posted on Facebbok on world poetry day. Non-bailable charges were filed against Bengali poet Srijato Bandyopathyay. FIRs have reported been under Section 295 (A) which claims it’s a deliberate and malicious act to outrage religious sentiments and section 67 of the IT Act.

Reacting to the complaint against him,Bandyopadhyay said, “It is really sad that in a country like India, which has been known for his democratic values, the right to freedom of speech and expression is shrinking fast.” He also said that majority of people in the country still believe in freedom of expression.
