Young girl burnt alive for protesting against cutting down of trees in Rajasthan, dies

Police has registered a case and is probing role of the sarpanch (village head) in the incident

In a horrific incident that took place in Rajasthan on March 26, a young girl was burnt alive for protesting over cutting down of trees, she later died in the hospital.

A 20-year-old girl girl who has been identified as Lalita was burnt alive as her agitation had caused anger and shock among some of the villagers in the Pipda, which is about 100 km from Jodhpur.

As many as 10 people have been named in the FIR registered and police is also probing role of the sarpanch (village head), Ranveer Singh in the incident as there are some allegations that he too was involved in it.

Police said that for the construction of a road in the village, some trees in Lalithaa’s  farm were to be cut on which the young woman objected, which led to an altercation between her and a group of villagers. The matter escalated and she was later attacked by some of the villagers who poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

The girl died in a hospital on March 27 where she was being treated. The case has been registered and police is probing the incident.

Suresh Chaudhary, Police officer told ANI, “The sarpanch and other people poured petrol on her and burnt her alive. The body is in the mortuary. We will arrest the accused soon, after a fair investigation.”
