The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 19 announced that self-acclaimed Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s 78 bank accounts are under scanner, including all his accounts in India, officials said.
The agency also told that his NGO, Islamic Research Foundation (ISR) has around 100 crores investments in the real state sector.
Last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had put a ban on Naik’s NGO for five years and gave the assent to declare it as an unlawful organisation.

Controversial preacher first came into limelight when his involvement was found in the Dhaka terror attack that happened on July 1 as one of the terrorist allegedly said that he was influenced by him after listening to his speeches.
NIA has registered various cases against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for giving controversial speeches on religious grounds and creating bitterness among communities.
The agency had raided his resident and various offices,including his Peace TV offices. Naik’s bank account was also freezed.
After the controversy, Naik left India and has not returned. Since then, he is preaching in Middle East and Africa
In 2016, he interacted with the media in Mumbai through via Skype.
