It’s difficult to ask for a raise but always remember — there’s always a difference between asking for what you think you deserve and what you actually deserve! It’s understandable that having a frank and open discussion about money is out of most people’s comfort zones, but you have to go for it.
In an ideal Utopian world, your seniors would automatically notice your hard work and accomplishments and just give you a raise. If you really think this is how the real world works, please ask your boss for nap times, free meals and snacks and booze on the house too. No, if you really want a raise in the real world, you have to ask for one. Now the biggest question is — how do you ask for a raise and get it? Here are 5 ways you can go about it:
Take on more responsibility
This may sound very obvious but once you complete the tasks and responsibilities in your current role, then start taking on the problems that you want yourself to be working on after you get a raise.

Keep a track of your wins and communicate about them regularly
Constantly discuss everything you’re doing with your boss on a regular basis to make sure they have a track of how well you’re doing. This will be useful in the long run as when you will approach them with a request for a promotion, they’ll already know you deserve it!
Ask for feedback
This helps you gauge what your senior thinks about you and you can work on the flaws they point out. This also helps you build a sense of community with seniors and juniors.

Practice your pitch and anticipate questions.
Always be clear about what you’re going to say- and the questions that might follow. You should have 5 solid points ready. And, as difficult as it may be, always be ready to hear a no.
Have the talk- focus on why you deserve it
Don’t talk about how you need a raise, talk about why you deserve one. Increasing costs, appraisal of co-workers, offer from other companies etc shouldn’t be a part of this conversation. Employers are looking to give raise to people based on performance, not needs!
